Wallace tower, Built for Sir Duncan Wallace, Sheriff of Ayr circa 1373, a relative of the great Scottish patriot, Sir William Wallace, the castle and lands passed into the hands of the Cathcart family in 1386.  Sir Alan Cathcart was one of only two knights who returned from a crusade to the Holyland with the heart of Robert The Bruce, which was subsequently buried at Melrose Abbey. http://www.aboutscotland.com/scottscastle/wallace.html
